3.3.11 Supported Formats
There is a wide variation in the number and type of formats supported by the E-Readers
currently in the market. While MS-Office format is not common most of the E-Readers
support PDF, TXT and MP3 formats. The lack of MS-Office formats could be, presumably,
attributed to the fact that most of the E-Readers are using Linux OS.
3.3.12 Marketing Model
The companies that make E-Readers have adopted different marketing model for their
respective products. Some companies sell both directly to individuals and to wholesalers like
publishers who then make the product available to the end user. As at the time of writing this
text, Frontech-Fujitsu only sale to corporations and the minimum quantity is 10 units.
Polymer Vision is profiling Readius as a “Cellular Book” and as such is dealing with Telecom
companies only. Bellow we summarise these models in a table.

3.3.12 Discussion
The E-Reader as a unique book reading device, with good screen technology and ambient
reading quality that is subtle to the human eye, is still not a success. Several E-Readers where
examined in the market analyses. In general E-Readers are still very expensive this could be
traced back to the volume of E-papers produced within the past few years. To decrease the
price of E-Readers, E-paper production need to be increased which also means that the
number of devices using E-paper technology need to increase considerably. This leads to the
issue of acceptance of E-paper screen devices, for now most consumers still believe that the
refresh rate of these devices are too slow even though they have excellent resolution and wide
