Figure C 2
The module above depicts the manager payment system for the pre-paid cards. The upper part
of the diagram shows the interaction between the contactless information transfer and the pre-
paid card. The lower part of the diagram shows the old magnetic strip system, which is kept
here for compatibility with the present slot machines in the buses cum trains.
E-Traveling Card-issuing mechanism is as follows:
For a user who wants to buy a new pre-paid traveling card the service manager will
issue the card via existing payment method, which is represented by “Existing
Module” arrow in figure 2.
The officer will use the contactless module (New Module) to transfer a copy of a
static timetable for three routes of the user’s desire from the PC to the card.
The information will be written in the card from the PC to RF reader/writer via USB
cable, and then from RF reader/writer the information flows to the RF chip of the
card.
NOTE: Further enhancement can be done by writing the payment information in both the
card’s memory as well as the magnetic strip, so depending on the technology inside the bus
both systems will work. The aim is that in the near future when all the buses cum trains slot
machines are replaced by contactless modules the magnetic strip reader will not be required.
