Working on the thesis was fun but not without some obstacles. The configuration of Nano-X
and other essential libraries for PC-simulation on Linux took a couple of man-hours.
Configuring the cross-compiler environment that came with the Development kit was even
much more difficult, things would not just work. A lot of communication via email transpired
between us, and the company that provided the Tool-Kit in Taiwan. All the enquiries we
made, with the exception of one, did not shield any positive result. The Development-Kit did
not have any clear instructions on how to compile a source code and when we, after several
man-hours, could compile our source codes we found out that the hardware came with the
wrong font-library. Information we wrote in English was displayed in Chinese on the E-
Paper- Screen. After a lot of effort we were able to reconfigure the system to work with other
fonts.
7.3 Debugging
The system is configured for debugging through UART-serial interface connected to a PC
through ‘Minicom’ on Linux OS or ‘Hyper-Terminal’ on Windows OS. The debugging posed
a great problem because both ‘Minicom’ on Linux and ‘Hyper Terminal’ on Windows did not
yield any positive result. Consequently, we resorted to black-box-testing, which also means
that work on the hardware was much slower and difficult than usual.
